Efficacy of pellet count surveys to estimate density of white-tailed deer
As an undergraduate, I was a research assistant with the Deer Laboratory at Auburn University, a primarily forested 174-ha enclosure that provided a unique opportunity to research a long-term known population of white-tailed deer. In that role, I designed a study to evaluate the efficacy of pellet count surveys for estimating the density of white-tailed deer and thus improve species-specific management. I was awarded a year-long undergraduate research fellowship from Auburn University to facilitate that research, and I also received the Alabama Wildlife Federation David K. Nelson Game Management award for excellence in game species research. Currently, I am in the process of completing my research manuscript for publication in the scientific journal Wildlife Research, and I published a research highlight on my project in the Auburn University Journal of Undergraduate Scholarship.
